The
activities is simple, The Confinement Lady (Mak Ani) will come to your house
and things that she will do 1st is giving a traditional Malay sauna also can be said as Tangas, which really steaming of the body using water boiled with
traditional Malay herbs such as pandan leaves, serai, kayu manis and ginger.
The purpose is to get rid of the excessive water in the face and body.
End of the Tangas session, it’s time for the baby bath. Baby bath will be fully done
by the Confinement Lady and the mother just need to relax. Done for the baby,
its mothers turn to be massage. She
will be using Tunku at the end
of the massage which is a
heated up river stone being rub all over the body, providing instant relief to
any muscle aches. The massage will take for about 2 hours.
But that’s different with for those who are during
the confinement period and after the confinement period. During the confinement
period, the massage will be in a normal ways it goes while after the
confinement period, the customer will be having a honey body scrub. The entire body was slattered with egg white mixed with
lime juice. After a thorough scrub-in, we proceeded to the much-awaited “mandi bunga” or floral bath this is a standard ritual for brides to be. In Malay, the floral bath is known as Mandi
Tujuh Aura which the name is originally named by Mak Ani and different
people may have different floral bath. There are roses, chrysanthemum, and
jasmine, thick slices of oranges, lime and kaffir lime. It is not only pretty,
it smells refreshing! It will give you a thoroughly relaxing hair wash,
where the flowers are crushed in your hand and scrubbed against your skin. The
oranges, lime and kaffir lime are also used as a scrub while the juices are
squeezed concurrently. Nothing in that pail is wasted! It smells heavenly and
to try this is a must!
